Part 1: The Origin of AKA Jessica Jones
Part 2: AKA Jessica Jones Cast and Characters (You Are Here)

Kilgrave and Jessica Jones

AKA Jessica Jones, Marvel’s next original Netflix series after Daredevil, is just a few short months from being released. We already revealed the background and origins of the story here. Today, we’re profiling the AKA Jessica Jones cast and characters. Find out who was cast in each role, and see where each each character fits into the story.

Jessica JonesKrysten Ritter AKA Jessica Jones Cast

Jessica Jones is our heroine and main protagonist. She’s smart, edgy, sarcastic and has a genuine desire to help people. Jones runs a private investigation firm called Alias Investigations where she solves cases that inevitable lead her back into her super-human past (Check her full origin story in Part 1).

Her history as a super hero was brief and traumatic. After a series of events where she was brainwashed and emotionally broken, Jones hung up the cape and cowl for good. She posses super-human strength, durability and the ability to fly. Jones even developed telepathic resistance to prevent herself losing control ever agian. We’ll have to wait to find out how she’ll use these powers in the show, if at all.

Marvel’s tapped Krysten Ritter to lead the Jessica Jones cast. You might recognize her from Don’t Trust the B, Veronica Mars, or Breaking Bad. Jessica Jones is Ritter’s first exposure to a Netflix Original series and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Luke CageMike Colter AKA Jessica Jones Cast

In the Alias comics, we primarily know Luke Cage as Jessica’s on-again, off-again lover. We’re sure to see an emotional connection grow between Cage and Jones over the course of the show. He’ll be her primary enforcer as they work together for Alias Investigations – she’s the brains, he’s the muscle.

Cage grew up on the streets of Harlem and eventually worked his way into the police force. In order to get Luke off their backs, a Harlem crime syndicate frames Luke as a heroine addict – leading to his arrest and transfer to a maximum-security prison. At this prison, scientists experiment on inmates with a “super-solider” serum. The serum works on Luke and he quickly uses his new found abilities to get the hell out of jail, and make his way back to Harlem. Luke sets up shop as a bounty hunter of sorts and get the nickname “The Super Hero for Hire”. Cage is an exceptional street fighter, with super human strength and stamina. But his main power is impenetrable skin, which comes in pretty handy in a knife fight.

Cage is played by Mike Colter. Although he’s in the AKA Jessica Jones cast, Netflix is also producing an entire Luke Cage series in 2016. Cage and Jones will become integral parts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as they’ll form a super-team called the Defenders along side Daredevil and Iron Fist. The Defenders series will also Debut on Netlix, at some point in 2016, or 2017.

KilgraveDavid Tennant AKA Jessica Jones Cast

Kilgrave, also know as “the Purple Man” is our primary antagonist and villain of the AKA Jessica Jones cast. Kilgrave was first introduced as a Daredevil villain, but his place in the Jessica Jones storyline is vital to her character development.

He was an international spy, who turned into a criminal after being doused with radioactive material at a bio-chemical refinery… never heard that one before. After the accident, Kilgrave’s body was able to produce pheromones which, when inhaled, allowed him control the minds and actions of those around him.

Kilgrave is played by David Tennant, who is arguably responsible for single handedly revitalizing the Dr. Who series as the Tenth Doctor. Tennant is in high demand these days, with key roles in AKA Jessica Jones, the UK miniseries Gracepoint, and the Netflix original adaptation Broadchurch.

Trish Walker AKA HellcatRachael Taylor AKA Jessica Jones Cast

We learned recently that Rachael Taylor would appear in every episode of AKA Jessica Jones this season.

In many way’s Walker and Jessica Jones represent opposite sides of the same coin. In the comics, Walker idolized super heroes so much so, that she blackmailed Beast (of the X-Men) to train her and to teach her to become Hellcat. A stark contrast to Jones who wants nothing to do with being a cape.

Although she’s not a superhuman, Hellcat is devoted to being a hero and helping people. In the comics, she would eventually join the Defenders team although it’s unclear if this will also be the case in the Netflix mini-series.

HarperCarrie Anne Moss AKA Jessica Jones

Carrie Anne Moss is the most recent addition the the AKA Jessica Jones cast. Harper is one character from the Netfix series that doesn’t stem from an original character in the comics.

She’s described by the shows producer as a “no-nonsense woman in a position of authority, who could prove a powerful ally to Jessica — if the titular character doesn’t completely alienate her first.” Some are speculating that Harper is a local government official, which Jones encounters as part of her investigations.

We’d like to see her as a covert S.H.I.E.L.D. operative. We know S.H.I.E.L.D. is extremely interested in identifying, and indexing super humans. Harper’s character could bridge S.H.I.E.L.D. in the Netflix series to the ABC show. #ItsAllConnected

MalcolmEka Darville Malcom AKA Jessica Jones Cast

Played by newcomer Eka Darville, Malcom is Jessica’s neighbor, and according to Marvel’s press release, “his journey will intertwine with the quest in a surprising way”.

We think Malcolm will be the show’s plucky comic relief which will be sorely needed if it’s as dark as the source material.

HopeErin Moriarty AKA Jessica Jones Cast

Hope will be an important client of Alias Investigations.

We don’t know much about her character, and we haven’t seen much from actress Erin Moriarty outside of her role in HBO’s True Detective. We do know that she’ll be in the AKA Jessica Jones cast every episode this season, so expect to see much more from her.

That’s it for the key players of Season 1. We’ll continue to update this page as we learn more about the new AKA Jessica Jones cast members. We’re really excited to see how they play out on screen. Are you excited for Marvel’s AKA Jessica Jones? Join us on Twitter and Facebook and let us know.
